  • Cochin Port Extends Support to the Flood-Affected

    KOCHI:
    1. As the flood waters have receded, the inmates at School Relief Camp in Cochin Port are getting ready to return to their homes.
    2. Medical Dept. of Cochin Port Trust has conducted a counselling session on 23/08/2018 for the flood victims accommodated at the relief camp at Cochin Port to enable them to cope up with psychological issues which they may face after going back to flood-affected residences.
    3. Volunteers from Cochin Port Trust are helping flood affected people in different parts of the district in cleaning their flood hit houses.
    4. Cochin Port Trust is giving hospital facility to flood victims who are in the relief camp at Cochin Port free of charges.
    5.  A.V. Ramana, Chairman (i/c) has been taking daily review of the relief activities as well as speedy handling of relief materials through the port.
    6. Earlier, Cochin Port Trust had decided to contribute Rs.62 lakhs comprising Rs.31 lakhs from employees’ one day salary and Rs.31 lakhs from Cochin Port Trust fund to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
    7. Apart from this, the employees of Cochin Port Trust also decided to call off the Onam celebrations and contribute the amount collected for the celebrations (Rs.65,000/-) towards the relief work.
    8. Cochin Port Trust has earmarked two berths for priority berthing of vessels bringing flood relief materials to Kerala. Also, two godowns have been earmarked for storage of relief materials and medicines free of charges.
    9. The relief camp started by Cochin Port at Sir Robert Bristow Memorial School, Willingdon Island has about 66 persons from 25 families from nearby areas of Cochin. Doctors of Cochin Port Trust Hospital are providing 24×7 medical assistance at the camp including ambulance service and free medicines. Volunteer teams comprising staff and family members of Cochin Port have been assisting the camp extending best support including cooking & serving of food for the inmates. The CISF, CoPT Unit and Fire Service Unit of Cochin Port have been assisting the camp with transportation facility, water supply etc.
    10. The members of the Cochin Port fraternity including Employees’s Welfare Association, the trade, govt. offices and well-wishers in the Port area have supplied essential utensils, gas stoves, provisions, clothes, toiletries etc to the inmates for taking to their homes on winding up of the relief camp, which is planned for 27/08/2018 (Monday).
    11. Six container loads of relief materials (10,000 nos. each of saree, dhoti, lungi, bedsheet, biscuit packet, one litre packaged water bottles, 5kg rice bags) were contributed by five major ports (VOC Port Trust, Chennai Port Trust, Kamarajar Port Trust, New Mangalore Port Trust & Cochin Port Trust) under Ministry of Shipping, Govt of India.
    12. The relief materials mobilised by the SC/ST Federation, Cochin Port Trust Unit for distribution at rescue camps was flagged off by A.V.Ramana, Chairman (i/c) on 18.08.2018.
    13. Four containers of relief materials sent by Shipping fraternity from Tuticorin under the initiative of Ministry of Shipping arrived at ICTT Vallarpadam by SSL Krishna were directly delivered for distribution on 20/08/2018.
    14. The coastal crude vessel Swarna Godavari with 50,000 MT Crude from Mumbai, diverted by BPCL to Cochin Port to meet the fuel demand of Kerala arrived at 20.08.2018.
    15. More relief materials from different parts of India have started arriving Cochin Port via Coastal Shipping. Naval Ship INS Deepak carrying relief materials from Mumbai had arrived Cochin Port on 19/08/2018 & 22/08/2018.with fresh water & provisions.
    16.  Transworld Group has offered special coastal services of ships connecting Ports at Hazira, Mundra, Kattupalli, Tuticorin, Pipavav, Kandla with Cochin for carrying flood relief materials from different parts of India.
