NEW DELHI:
COAI, the apex industry association representing leading Telecom, Internet, Technology and Digital Services companies, collaborates with World Trade Center India Services Council (WTCIS) to establish a first-of-its-kind ESDM Center of Excellence at the WTC-1A, World Trade Centre Noida.
The proposed Centre of Excellence will work towards the development of human capital in India, with deep focus on skilling, upskilling, design, research, entrepreneurship and to strengthen the innovation ecosystem pertaining to mobile, telecom, electronics and allied network industries.
The Electronic System Design Manufacturing (ESDM) is one of the fastest growing manufacturing industries in India and aims to be a $400 billion industry by 2025. The $400 billion turnover shall include targeted production of 1 billion mobile handsets by 2025, valued at $190 billion (approximately INR 13 lakh crore), including 600 million mobile handsets valued at $110 billion (approximately INR 7 lakh crore), for export.
Driven by the dynamic shifts in electronics design, manufacturing capabilities and established cost structures, Companies are increasingly looking to build local capabilities in India, not just for Make in India but Made in India for the World. As the ESDM industry evolves and scales further in terms of value addition and value proposition across the complete value chain segments, it is indispensable to promote domestic manufacturing, with special emphasis on design-led growth of the ESDM sector.
Commenting on the collaboration, Rajan S Mathews, Director General, COAI, said, “We are excited to partner with the World Trade Center India Services Council, an international ecosystem of global business connectivity, iconic properties, and integrated trade services spread across several cities and countries. Our combined expertise in telecom, mobile and ESDM industries will go a long way in helping the industry, state and the country at large. Providing a holistic ecosystem for human capital development through this Center of Excellence will catapult indigenous manufacturing to greater heights in National Capital Region.”
The Government of Uttar Pradesh is leaving no stone unturned when it comes to promoting the ESDM industry in the State and essentially looking to be the hub for ESDM with conducive policy environment, support to the industry and concerted strategy. With the objective to make the state globally competitive & an industry friendly electronics manufacturing destination, the Government has initiated the MOX-Mobile Open Exchange Cluster, with WTC Noida as a business enabling hub.
Earlier this year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of India’s First Mobile Open Exchange (MOX) at WTC Noida. Uttar Pradesh Government signed MOU with WTC Noida to develop techzone as nucleus of MOX to act as catalyst to enable growth in mobile & allied sectors in U.P.
Khair Ull Nissa, Executive Director, World Trade Center India Services Council, reiterated, “We are elated to partner with COAI in setting up this ESDM Center of Excellence at WTC Noida, targeted at building a robust pipeline of Human Capital. COAI is the official voice for the Indian telecom industry and interacts directly with Ministries, Policy Makers, Regulators, Financial Institutions and Technical Bodies. We are both committed towards the growth of mobile telephony in the country and this association is a natural extension of this joint focus.”
