THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:
The city-based Centre for Innovation in Science and Social Action (CISSA), with the support of Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment (KSCSTE) and National Green Corps (NGC), will organize Ozone Day Celebrations 2018 on September 22, 2018, Saturday, at the HSS for Girls Venganoor, Thiruvananthapuram. The event, which will include an Awareness Seminar, will have as its focal theme ‘Keep Cool and Carry On! The Montreal Protocol’.
A painting competition for junior and senior-level students will also be conducted as a part of the event. The theme for the painting competition to be held in the morning session will be, ’Ozone Depletion and Climate Change’. Students from Govt. / aided/ unaided/ CBSE/ ICSE/ private schools in Neyyattinkara Educational district can participate. The event, to be inaugurated by Venganoor Satheesh, Vice President, Venganoor Grama Panchayat, will be presided over by Dr. C. K. Peethambaran, Director, Agriculture division, CISSA. Deepthi Girish, Manager, HSS for Girls Venganoor; Hareendran Nair. S, PTA President, HSS for Girls Venganoor; and Dr. C. S. Ravindran, Principal Scientist, ICAR-CTCRI; will offer felicitations. Renjithkumar B V, HSS for Girls Venganoor will also be present.
The inauguration will be followed by a technical seminar session. Dr. P. N. Krishnan, Former Scientist, JNTBGRI & Emeritus Scientist, Malabar Botanical Garden, Kozhikode, will talk on ‘Montreal protocol and its Impact on Climate Change’. A session on ‘Ozone Depletion and Biodiversity’ will be led by Dr. A. Bijukumar, Dean and Faculty of Science, University of Kerala. B. V. Suresh Babu, Accredited Energy Auditor, BEE, will discuss the topic ‘Keep Cool and Carry On! The Montreal Protocol – Role of Energy Efficiency and Energy Conservation’, while Dr. C. K. Peethambaran, who is also a Former Director of Research, Kerala Agricultural University, will converse on the Effect of Climate Change on Food Security.
The event will conclude with the prize distribution for the painting competition.
