  • Child Help Foundation (CHF) Brought Significant Change in the Healthcare System

By NE Reporter on August 8, 2024

    KOCHI:
Child Help Foundation (CHF), a Pan India non-profit child-centric organisation that stands for major issues related to underprivileged children across India, has conducted a significant campaign in Kerala. The campaign was initiated to provide healthcare support to the underprivileged section of society with acute medical cases. The NGO supported a total of 115 medical cases, encompassing patients and underprivileged families with critical conditions such as cancer, heart disease, premature births, and more.

In addition to medical support, the NGO has also undertaken various community initiatives to enhance the living conditions and promote the societal well-being of the people in hospitals, railway stations and places of worship in Kerala to provide a safe and secure place for lactating mothers and reduce the stigma of breastfeeding in public.
Another initiative of blanket distributions in Kumali, Idukki District, was also conducted in the winter to provide warmth to the needy and vulnerable during the harsh winters.

There were many other activities that were conducted in the past to help the underprivileged people of Kerala, such as:
    ● Actively engaged in environmental conservation through initiatives like beach clean-ups in Kuzhuppilly
    ● Distributed essential items during natural calamities
    ● Educational support through events like Dann Utsav and specialised interventions on World Disability Day
    ● Baby sack distribution in Kerala
    ● World Disability Day Celebration, St. Joseph’s Cottalengo, Palluruthy, Ernakulam
    ● Natural Calamity Kit Distribution at Mallappally, Pathanamthitta
    ● Daan Utsav Kit Distribution at Thevara
    ● Kerala Flood Relief Initiative 2018
For the above, the Child Help Foundation collaborated effectively with local authorities, community leaders, and partner organisations to ensure the maximum reach and impact of their programmes.

Speaking on the occasion, Shaji Varghese, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Child Help Foundation, said, “When we started Child Help Foundation, our primary goal was to help children get education, nutrition and medical treatment. I am proud of our volunteers, who have helped us reach a huge number of people. It is through their hard work that we have been able to reach far and wide in India. We hope that we can continue our work in Kerala and serve more children in the state with our work.”

The organisation worked extensively to help the people of Kerala with healthcare needs with the help of local authorities. CHF provided crucial support across various medical conditions in the past year. With a significant focus on heart diseases and premature births, each receiving assistance for 31 cases, CHF underscored its commitment to neonatal and cardiovascular care. Additionally, efforts extended to addressing scoliosis, aiding 11 individuals with spinal deformities. Oncological care was also a priority, with 16 cases supported for cancer treatments. The foundation further facilitated bone marrow transplants for 7 patients, supported renal health with 6 cases, and intervened in complex neurosurgical conditions with 4 cases undergoing brain surgery. Eight other life-threatening illnesses were also addressed, showcasing CHF’s broad spectrum of medical aid. Lastly, specialized support was provided to one case of severe burns, highlighting the foundation’s comprehensive approach to medical assistance.

Along with this, CHF has many success stories that the NGO is proud of, as it could become the reason to bring happiness to their lives. One such case was that of Arpita Singh (pseudonym), a one-year-old from Ernakulam, Kerala, who faced a daunting medical challenge early in life. She was diagnosed with Multi Sutural Craniosynostosis when she was just three months old. Arpita’s father is a daily wage labourer who is the sole breadwinner in a family of seven. It was impossible for him to cover the expenses of Arpita’s treatment. Support was provided by CHF, which ensured that Arpita received comprehensive care, covering all necessary medical expenses and facilitating a speedy recovery and healthy well-being. There are many such successful cases where Child Help Foundation has raised funds to help the needy suffering from severe medical conditions.

It showcases CHF’s diverse initiatives and impactful contributions across the healthcare, disaster relief, community welfare, and education sectors in Kerala. Each event underscores CHF’s commitment to addressing local needs, fostering resilience, and promoting sustainable development through collaborative partnerships and effective interventions .In total, CHF has made a positive impact on the lives of 48,45,101 people.
