Uric acid is the by-product of protein metabolism in human beings. It is removed from the blood and gets excreted as urine. Its excessive presence in blood can lead to hyperuricemia. Deposition of uric acid crystals in the joints, especially hands and feet, results in a painful arthritic condition known as gout.
Uric acid content in the body rises mainly due to two reasons – kidney dysfunction or as the result of over consumption of protein-rich food. Intake of sugary beverages can also promote the risks of gout. Uric acid content also depends upon the body mass, weight, age, gender and hormonal activity in an individual.uric acid gout
Fibrous food, green leafy vegetables (cabbage, celery, broccoli etc.) and fruits rich in vitamin-C (like grapes, cherries, pineapple) are excellent sources to fight gout and hyperuricemia. In addition to this, remember to keep your body hydrated by drinking eight to twelve glasses of water a day. Water helps in the dilution of the uric acid levels in blood and also makes the process of urination easier, thereby excreting the excess uric acid along with it.
