New Delhi: National Green Tribunal has passed an order banning the use of diesel vehicles over 10 years old in Delhi. It has asked the Delhi Regional Road Transport Office ( RTO ) to give the city traffic polic
e a list of vehicles that have to be deregisteredand impounded. The order is for an immediate ban.
If this order is implemented , thousands of vehicles, especially cars, will have to be be taken off Delhi roads, and a large number of car owners will be forced to buy new cars
Earlier in the year, the Supreme Court had banned the registration of large diesel vehicles and ordered all diesel taxis to convert to CNG.
In April this year, the National Green Tribunal banned all diesel vehicles older than 10 years from Delhi city. The reason was that such cars have primitive pollution-control systems and they produce more harmful gases than their newer models.
