C0c0n X – 2017, the 10th Edition of our Annual two day Hacking and Cyberc Security Briefing, scheduled from 18th-19th Aug 2017 at Le Meridian Hotel, Kochi, Kerala, India). In the past years, Kerala Police has played a leading role in organizing the two day International Information Security Conference in association with the information Security Research Association – India Chapter (ISRA – a registered non- profit organization) and with the POLCYB – (The Society for the Policing of Cyberspace which is incorporated as a not-for- profit society in June 1999. Based in British Columbia, Canada, their goal is to enhance international partnerships among public and private professionals to prevent and combat crimes in cyberspace).
Being the 10th edition of c0c0n, more than 60 sessions on 4 different tracks covering 4 security domains have been scheduled,with and expected participation from more than 10 countries, including international speakers at different levels.
Various technical, non-technical, legal and community events are also organized as part of the program.
cOcOn strives to enhance international parterships among public and private professionals to prevent and combat crimes in cyberspace and this will be an unparalleled opportunity that will bring together global leaders to discuss and articulate regarding emerging cyber threat analysis, operational strategies, enforcement & Forensics.
C0c0n is aimed at providing a platform to discuss, showcase, educate, understand and spread awareness on the latest trends in information, cyber and hi-tech crimes. It also aims to provide a hand-shaking platform for various corporate, government organizations including the various investigation agencies, academia, research organizations and other industry leaders and players for better co-ordination in making the cyber world a better and safe place to be. The c0c0n 2017 is aimed at providing a platform to discuss and share new information and latest trends in cyber crimes across the World.
This year, an added attraction to the event is “KID GLOVE” which is an initiatve launched in 2015, exclusively created to generate awareness among children, teachers and parents. Kid Glove will have a KIDS VILLAGE in C0c0n 2017 to educate children, teachers and parents about the dangers of cyberspace and the safe practices that need be followed . KIDS VILLAGE will be open on the 18th and 19th of August 2017 at Hotel Le Meridian, with a confirmed attendance of over 200 participants. The onsite activities include hands-on workshops, sessions, debate competitions and paper presentations selected from the students themselves. The workshops will be conducted by experts from the industry , law enforcement agencies and also international speakers/trainers. Kid Glove focuses on creating awareness and capacity building among children, teachers and parents, to counter and tackle the threats of cyberspace. A special Kid Glove village set up by OWASP Kids and STEM Robotics Academy where children will receive special kits and be able to interact with the latest in robotic technology such as flying drones, learning to assemble gadgets etc. are some added attractions in cOcOn 2017.. The paper presenters were selected from a pool of entries with a call for papers from the students themselves, where they are groomed and can present their knowledge in a gathering of their peers. The highlight of the event is a talk by Parry Aftab, an eminent lawyer and digital security activist on the topic “Social Media and You”. Other sessions include “Threats in Online Gaming” by the OWASP team, and “Cyber Stalking”, by cybersafetyindia.org. A debate on “The Use of Smart Phones by Students” and a panel discussion with teachers on “Cyber Safety to Students” will also be conducted.
C0c0n Kid Glove 2017 promises to be an event like no other to engage kids, teachers and parents alike, to share with them the importance of cyber security and safe practices. C0C0N is not purely a police conference. It is a mega event in which the expertise veterans from all around the globe will take part. Also we have representation from the police officers outside India and from all the States in India, Senior officers from NIA, CBI, Intelligence Bureau, RAW, NCRB, BPR& D, CERT-In, etc.
The emergence of “Kerala Police Cyber Dome”, Centre of Excellence for Kerala Police was the net result of inspiration garnered from previous c0c0n conferences. Cyber Dome was formed in the year 2015 to meet the long term security challenges in the digital arena of the modern world, by bridging the gap between the latest changes and innovations in the cyber space and the skill set development of Kerala Police, in combating the emerging cyber threats. It is envisaged as a collaboration Centre for both the public and private fraternity to converge and share information, as well as resources, which will escalate the safety of our cyber space.
C0c0n serves as a premier international forum to highlight the importance of empowering citizens, business and government to improve their cyber security preparedness. Kerala Police has won the “Asia-Pacific Information Security Leadership Achievements (ISLA) Award 2013, Special Achievement Award; under the INFOSEC MAESTROS in 2014, Nullcon Black Shield Awards” under the “Gov-r- nator” category for year 2014, for its unique initiatives in the area of cyber security, with particular reference to C0c0n conference.
Aruna Sundararajan, Secretary, Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology, Govt. of India will be the Guest of Honour during the Conference, apart from Alok Joshi, Chairman, NTRO, Prime Minister’s Office, Govt. of India and will be delivering the Key Note address at the Opening Session of the ceremony.
Dr. Ajeet Bajpai, Director General, National Critical Information Infrastructure Protection Centre (NCIIPC), S.D. Shibulal, Co-founder – Infosys will be delivering a special addresses.
The list of distinguished speakers include Bessie Pang, Executive director of POLYCB. (Society for Policing the cyberspace, Canada, Ms.Betsy Broder, Counsel for International Consumer Protection at the US Federal Trade Commission, Dr. Parry Aftab is a digital privacy/security lawyer and founder of Cybersafeyindia.org, Cecilia WALLIN, Criminal Intelligence Officer at INTERPOL Crimes against Children, is the team leader for the team based in the Asian region and LEE HWEE HSIUNG, Head of Department – Cyber Security Professional Development (CSPD), Malaysia. Omar Mohammad Hasan Alood Al Teneiji, Lt. Colonel, RAK Police Headquarters, UAE.
The Event will run in four parallel streams from 10:00 AM onwards. Track one will be the Non Technical Track and Track 2 – Financial and Banking, Track – 3 will be a purely Technical Track and Track 4 – KIDGLOVE. Apart from foreign delegates, Students, IT experts, Police Cyber Cells, Police officers from around the country will participate in the conference. The event will come to a close with the Valedictory
Session on 19th August 2016 at 5 pm.
We sincerely hope that this path breaking endeavor is a pre- cursor to a larger revolution in society’s endeavor against cyber crimes and to ensure better and foolproof security for our Digital resources.
The conference will be inaugurated on 18th August 2016 at 10 am by Aruna Sundararajan, Secretary, Department of Telecommunication, Government of India. Elias George, Managing Director, Kochi Metro Limited, will be the Chief Guest at the Valedictory Function. Loknath Behera, DGP & State Police Chief & Chairman, Organizing Committee preside over the closing events, Dr. Ajeet Bajpai, Maj(Gen) Rt. Director General, National Critical Information Infrastructure Protection Centre (NCIIPC) will deliver the valedictory address.
