THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said there were intelligence reports that the state unit of the BJP might unleash violence to divert attention from the medical scam involving local BJP leaders.
Replying to questions in the state Assembly, he said the government had taken various steps in the wake of intelligence reports that the Bharatiya Janata Party wanted to divert attention from the issue that badly affected its image in the state. He said the government could effectively curb the violence in Thiruvananthapuram and took all the suspects into custody. ”We are committed to bring all the accused before law irrespective of their party affiliation,” he said.
The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) has already initiated an inquiry into the allegation that private medical college owners paid crores of rupees to BJP leaders to get recognition to certain medical colleges. The findings of an internal party committee appointed by the BJP would also come to the purview of the vigilance inquiry, he said.
There were widespread corruption involving local BJP leaders in the state. The ongoing investigation was satisfactory and if the situation arose, the government would recommend the medical scam to the CBI for further investigation, the Chief Minister added.
The issue was raised by the members of the Opposition United Democratic Front. Earlier, they shouted slogans demanding steps from the government to end the violence between the CPM and the BJP in the state.
