The annual convocation of the 35th batch at Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology (SCTISMT) was held at Achutha Menon Centre for Health Science Studies Auditorium (Sree Chitra Campus) on Saturday.
Prof. Balram Bhargava, Secretary Department of Health Research & Director General, Indian Council of Medical Research, who was the chief guest said that we have done phenomenally well in the health sector, apart from IT, mobiles, cricket and bollywood. Now we have to focus on universal health care for emergency care in India.
“In medical tourism India is second in the world because treatment is not expensive here. Now there is no need for anyone to go to any foreign countries for any kind of treatment”, he said.
We should also be able to develop Make in India medical devices at an affordable cost. Low cost innovations is the need of the hour to ensure affordability and accessibility for treatment, he added.
The guest of honour at the function, Dr E Sreedharan (Former IES Officer and MD Delhi Metro), said that the graduation ceremony is a memorable event and the students are fortunate to get the graduation from Sree Chitra. He stressed the need for quality of work culture for a successful profession.
‘For a successful profession there should be punctuality, integrity, professional competence and commitment of the society. Punctuality and integrity is important for all professions’, he said.
Knowledge is power and there is nothing sacred in this world except knowledge. The education becomes perfect only with upholding your ethics, he said.
Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology (SCTISMT) held the annual convocation of its 35th batch on 18th May, 2019 at the AchuthaMenon Centre for Health Science Studies auditorium. 147 senior residents, PhD scholars and students who graduated during the year 2018 after completing DM, MCh, Post doctoral fellowship, Post doctoral certificate courses in Cardiac and Neurological specialties, PhD, Master of Public Health, MPhil and MS programs have received their degrees . An Institute of National Importance under the administrative control of the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, SCTIMST draws students from all over India. SCT has also affiliated programs of Christian Medical College, Vellore; National Institute of Epidemiology, Chennai; Indian Institute of Public Health, New Delhi, Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management, Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram.
The annual convocation is a momentous occasion not only for the students but the whole academic fraternity. SCTIMST, which enjoys the powers of a university, has created a niche for itself by offering the highest quality training in advanced medical superspecialties of cardiac and neurosciences and the research in medical, biomedical and public health sciences.
President of the Institute Dr.Vijay Kumar Saraswat, presided over the function and conferred the degrees. Prof.Asha Kishore, Director, SCTIMST, welcomed the gathering and presented the report of the academic and R&D activities of the Institute. Dr P Sankara Sarma proposed the vote of thanks.
