THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:
The final day of Animation Masters Summit 2019 by Toonz Media Group was kick started with an age-old Kerala folk art form Tholpaavakoothu. The performance as part of AMS 2019 was staged by K Lakshmana Pulavar and team from Palakkad district. It was organized to preserve the unique artform from extinction and revive the old tales through old tradition.
The very first session of the day was by Vivek Ram, Senathipathi of Vaanarsena Studios which was founded by Vivek for the love of Animation and Indian folk tales. In his session he spoke about his 20-year journey in Animation Industry and about his interpretation of Indian mythological stories in his works.
The second session was by Pete Dodd, Director/ Creator who has animated in iconic feature films such as The Tale of Despereaux, Corpse Bride, Frankenweenie and Fantastic Mr. Fox to name a few. His session covered ideation of a concept till execution, various stages in the process of execution and the end result.
V Srinivas Mohan, Indian Visual Effects Supervisor and Debra Sterling, Founder/CEO at GoldieBlox delivered engaging sessions post noon. V Srinivas Mohan discussed about the importance of VFX in storytelling, technicalities included and aspects to be considered by referring to his latest hit Enthiran 2.0. Debra Sterling shared her story about how she reinvented girlhood with GoldieBlox and how she disrupted the pink alley of girl’s toys session.
AMS 2019 was successfully concluded by awarding the winners of Cocoon Concept Lab, first ever concept lab conceptualized to support authentic storytelling and ideas by Bernard Boiteux, Director Sales Asia Specific, Toon Boom. The first and second positions were secured by Narayan Talukdar for The Adventures of Detective Doto Dumdum and Arjith Ghosh for Katu and Bhooto respectively. The winners will be mentored by the experts in the field and the idea will be developed for further execution.
