THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:
As part of the doubling works between Chingavanam – Changanaseri in Kottayam – Kayankulam section, the final stage of works are in progress. This has necessitated changes in pattern of train services.
On an average, 28 pairs of trains are being run via Chengannur for the convenience of Sabarimala pilgrims. For the convenience of pilgrims who have reserved by the diverted trains (trains that are diverted to run via Alappuzha instead of Kottayam), 2 passenger special trains are being run between Kottayam and Ernakulam.
The Kottayam – Ernakulam passenger special train leaves Kottayam at 10.45 hrs. to reach Ernakulam at 12.05 hrs. The Ernakulam passenger special train leaves Ernakulam at 12.30 hrs. to reach Kottayam at 14.15 hrs.
Moreover, all the Sabari special trains are being operated via the normal route, via Chengannur. In addition, trains which do not have a regular stoppage at Chengannur have been given temporary stoppage at Chengannur for the convenience of pilgrims. Furthermore, the diverted trains have been provided with stoppages at Kayankulam, Haripad, Ambalappuzha, Alappuzha and Shertalai.
