KOCHI:
Chief of liver diseases unit at the Cochin Gastroenterology Group at Ernakulam Medical Centre, Dr. Cyriac Abby Philips has been bestowed with the Young Investigator Award by the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD) for the third consecutive year.
He received this year’s award at the annual Liver Meeting of the AASLD held in Washington DC on 23rd of October, 2017 for his work on various liver injuries caused by Herbal and Traditional Medicines used in Kerala. In the year 2015, he received this award for his work on simple and effective management of septic shock in cirrhotic patients. In 2016, the award was for his novel work on stool transplant in severe alcoholic liver disease.
All these works were presented at the prestigious Presidential Plenary session of the annual Liver Meeting, the highest honour given to a clinical scientist by the AASLD. With this rare honour, Dr. Philips becomes the first liver disease specialist from India to receive the award three times in a row. Dr Philips is the son of renowned Gastroenterologist Dr. Philip Augustine, Chairman of the healthcare consultancy group, Philip Augustine Associates.
