JHARKHAND:
ACC, the cement and building materials company of the diversified Adani Portfolio, along with the Adani Foundation, is helping improve rural hygiene and public health through the construction of washing platforms in Chhatatand Gram Panchayat of Baliapur block. In villages where open washing near ponds once led to contamination and health risks, the initiative has brought structure, safety and behavioural change.
ACC and the Adani Foundation facilitated the construction of platforms at three high usage ponds in Chhatatand, Simatand and Kushberia villages. These platforms were equipped with drainage systems to ensure wastewater does not flow back into the main water body. Built using durable local materials and with community inputs, especially from women, the platforms offer cleaner, stable surfaces for washing clothes and utensils.
The results have been encouraging. Local health workers reported fewer cases of skin infections and water borne illnesses. Residents, particularly women, have adopted the platforms for daily chores, noting reduced physical strain and cleaner surroundings. Children and youth are also being sensitised toward hygienic practices.
This initiative highlights how ACC is enhancing village infrastructure to promote long term public health. By supporting simple yet impactful solutions rooted in community needs, the company is contributing to a cleaner, healthier rural environment through practical, people focused interventions.
