

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:
The 10-day flower and light festival will conclude on Friday (3rd January), after offering a spectacular visual treat to visitors during the Christmas and the New Year.
The event, organised at Kanakakunnu Palace grounds by the Tourism Department, marked 2.5 lakh footfalls in nine days since it began on December 25.
Visitors can enjoy the last day of ‘Vasantholsavam’ till midnight.
The festival was inaugurated by Tourism Minister P A Mohamed Riyas highlighting the theme ‘Illuminating Joy, Spreading Harmony’.
Apart from the residents of the city and suburbs, large number of domestic and foreign tourists who were in the state capital during the Christmas-New Year holidays also enjoyed the annual show.
For the closing day, art and cultural programs have been planned by the Child Welfare Committee.
Specially curated flowers brought from outside Kerala was one of the major attractions of this year’s flower show. Exotic and rare species of flowers were arranged aesthetically at Kanakakunnu Palace grounds and premises.
A garden of flowering plants, rare bonsai collection, cut flower display, collection of rare plant species displayed by government institutions and nurseries also turned the festival a never-miss experience.
Exhibition of medicinal plants, bio diversity exhibition, food festival, amusement park, trade fair, cultural and arts programs were also part of the event.
‘Vasantholsavam’ was organised by Tourism Department in association with District Tourism Promotion Council.
