Goethe-Zentrum to Host Jazz Concert on Nov 8

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:
Goethe-Zentrum, in association with Goethe Institut/Max Mueller Bhavan New Delhi, will host a jazz concert by German musicians Luise Volkmann, Paul Jarret and Max Andrzejewski on November 8.

The Volkmann/Jarret/Andrzejewski Trio will perform at the Allianz Haus, Jawahar Nagar. Free passes to the concert for the first 100 public guests are available via advance registration by scanning the downloadable QR code below.

Luise Volksmann is a Cologne-based Saxofonist who has worked and lived in France for many years. Her trio plays a convincing mixture of simple folk songs and improvised sound collages.

Founded in 2023 when Volkmann had a carte blanche for a new line-up at the Hanover Jazz Festival, the band members are outstanding composer instrumentalists who have already written for large formations.

In the trio’s interplay, this knowledge of instrumentation and form is condensed into an energetic, albeit fragile, profoundly emotional performance.

The project aims to depict playful elegance in the music and, above all, to take the audience on an energetic, flowing journey.The South Asia tour, which began on October 29 from Karachi, will take them to Colombo, New Delhi and Pune before the concert in the Kerala capital. Their next stop is in Dhaka.

Volkmann is interested in jazz’s transforming potential. She completed her studies in jazz saxophone, composition, and musicology in Leipzig, Paris, and Cologne. She is active as a bandleader for various large and small ensembles but is also in demand as a soloist in the German and French jazz scene.

The weekly magazine Die Zeit and Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland voted her albums among the best of 2018 and 2021.Over the past decade, she has played at renowned European festivals and jazz clubs, exploring pop, contemporary, and world music.

Max Andrzejewski is a composer and improvising drummer who lives in Berlin. His energetic musical work is on the border between contemporary classical music and improvisation.

As an active composer, improviser, and project leader, guitarist Paul Jarret deploys a highly personal sound and universe through various groups, projects, and collaborations, earning him recognition in French and European jazz.

He is firmly committed to ecology and sustainable development and defends these values, particularly those of the Grands Formats Federation.
