KOCHI:
Milma expects the demand for 56 lakh litres of milk, eight lakh packets of curd and 80,000 kg of ghee in Ernakulam, Idukki, Kottayam and Thrissur districts during ten days of Onam – from Atham to Thiruvonam day.
Milma Ernakulam Regional Union Chairman MT Jayan said preparations had been completed to make around 120 products, such as 75 types of ice creams – including sugar-free ice cream, sugar-free peda – five types of peda, various types of paneer and palada, available in the market this season.
Preparations were made for the prompt delivery of milk and curd from the dairies of Tripunithura, Kottayam, Kattappana and Thrissur and milk products from the Products Dairy at Edappally to the consumers.
The regional union has made all necessary arrangements to deal with higher-than-expected demand. As an encouragement for the sellers, a special seasonal incentive is also offered for curd and milk.
Local sales of 934 dairies operating in four districts will likely increase on Onam days. Due to this, steps have been taken to solve the shortfall in the current milk storage of the regional union.
However, with the help of the State Dairy Federation, preparations have been completed to procure milk from the Dairy Cooperative Federations of other states. The chairman assured customers that milk and milk products will be delivered responsibly on Onam days. Apart from Milma Shoppees and agents, this time targeting the rural market during Onam season, the cooperative has also started a plan to sell milk and other products through primary dairies.
Milma Refresh will make payasam available on the occasion of Onam in vegetarian restaurants and outlets directly run by the regional union.
