NEW DELHI:
The Delhi High Court has intervened to temporarily halt the demolition of illegal structures in Bhalswa Dairy colony, northwest Delhi. This decision followed a commitment by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) not to proceed with demolitions until August 16.
The assurance from MCD came after residents’ representatives informed the court of ongoing demolition activities in the area, involving MCD bulldozers and heavy police presence. The court, led by Acting Chief Justice Manmohan and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela, took note of the MCD’s oral statement and deferred further hearings and decisions on related matters to August 16.
Previously, the court had expressed concerns over unauthorized constructions in Delhi’s dairy colonies, directing authorities to take swift actions, including relocating dairies from Bhalswa to Ghogha within four weeks. The MCD has identified around 800 illegal structures and issued notices, though only around 100 dwellers have been served so far.
