Subin Francis, a 38-year-old resident of Puthanvelikara, Ernakulam was admitted to Angamaly Apollo Adlux Hospital in critical condition on April 13th following an accident. Despite the best efforts of medical professionals, Subin was declared brain-dead on Friday evening.
Subin’s relatives, who knew about the importance and greatness of organ donation, contacted Dr. Noble Gracious, Programme Director of Mrithasanjeevani scheme, a Kerala Government Initiative for organ transplantation program, and expressed their willingness to donate Subin’s organs.
Thanks to their quick action, the liver was successfully transplanted in a 23-year-old man undergoing treatment at Aster Medcity. One kidney was transplanted to a 22-year-old man from Vadakara, Calicut, who is undergoing treatment at Aster MIMS Hospital, Calicut, while the heart was transplanted to a patient at Lissie Hospital, Kochi. The second kidney and pancreas were transplanted to a patient at Amrita Hospital, Kochi. The surgical procedures for transplanting the organs started at 3 am on the Vishu day.
Dr. Noble Gracious, the Program Director of Mrithasanjeevani, praised the efforts made by Subin’s relatives, commented “Despite the pain of Subin’s death, the efforts made by the relatives to take steps for organ donation are commendable.”
The selfless act of Subin’s family in donating his organs has given hope to four people who were in desperate need of a transplant. This serves as a reminder of the importance of organ donation and the positive impact it can have on the lives of others.
