Federal Bank Hormis Memorial Foundation & Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology (SCTIMST), Thiruvananthapuram have entered into an agreement for establishing a “Comprehensive Centre for Cognitive Rehabilitation of children with Neuro developmental disorders.”
The memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between the Director of SCTIMST, Dr Asha
DGM & Regional Head and Remadevi Amma O, Chief Manager & Branch Head (Pongummoodu Branch) of Federal Bank attended the function.
SCTIMST is an Institute of National Importance under the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India and has the unique mandate of linking clinical medicine with technological innovations. K M Chandrasekhar, former Union Cabinet Secretary is the current President of SCTIMST. The Institute offers advanced treatment in many specialized fields such as interventional radiology, cardiac electrophysiology, deep brain stimulation for movement disorders and epilepsy surgery among several others. The Institute is in the process of expanding its existing facilities and developing a separate section for paediatric neurology.
Federal Bank Hormis Memorial Foundation is a public charitable trust created and managed by The Federal Bank Limited. It has been in the forefront in providing financial support to many endeavors for children with special needs. This joint venture with SCTIMST is yet another instance of their enduring commitment towards the welfare of children.
The Centre would cater to the medical and rehabilitative needs of children with various neuro developmental disorders like autism spectrum disorder, attention deficit hyperactive disorder
s, cerebral palsy, and dyslexia.
A multidisciplinary team involving pediatric neurologist, speech language pathologists, child psychologists, occupational therapists and physiotherapists will be available for these children through this state of the art facility. This collaborative venture will not only provide comprehensive services to children with neurodevelopmental disorders, but will also foster academic and research activities in this field. Early intervention and parental counseling of children with special needs are the key aspects of this Centre.
