  • Godrej Appliances Emphasizes on e-waste Awareness in the Citizens

By NE Reporter on April 6, 2022

    KOCHI:
Godrej & Boyce, the flagship company of the Godrej Group, announced that its business Godrej Appliances recently concluded a two week e-waste collection drive in Rajasthan, in association with Rajasthan State Pollution Control Board and Global Waste Solution to raise e-waste awareness.

As part of the drive, e-waste was collected from industrial units, residential areas, RWAs, commercial markets and informal hot-spots, and channelized to authorized recyclers and dismantlers. Of the 232 MT (232,000 kg) of e- waste collected from six cities, 38.5 MT (38,500 kg) of e-waste was collected from more than 150 residential complexes, raising awareness amongst public.

Over the years, Godrej Appliances has introduced multiple programs under the banner of India Vs E-Waste movement covering different cities with the intention to create awareness amongst citizens about the importance of appropriate e-waste disposal. Last year, a total of 15,600 MT (over fifteen million kilograms) of e-waste was collected by Godrej Appliances and this year the target is to collect 20,000 MT (twenty million kilograms) of e-waste.

To facilitate E-waste collection, the brand has in place a 24×7 toll-free number 1800 209 5511. Consumers can easily schedule a pickup by calling the toll-free number.

Commenting on the initiative, Kamal Nandi, Business Head and Executive Vice President – Godrej Appliances, part of Godrej & Boyce said, “Environment being a core value at Godrej, we are committed to the cause of proper e-waste recycling across the value chain. This has motivated us to scale up the India Vs E-Waste initiative by partnering with state governing bodies and other institutions to ensure safe disposal of electronics and appliances. Our toll-free number and easy to use QR code will help consumers schedule e-waste pick-ups easily. The emphasis on sustainability is not limited to e-waste drives and awareness campaigns, but also evident in our eco-friendly products and green manufacturing processes.”

Adding to this, Anand Mohan, Member Secretary, Rajasthan State Pollution Control Board said, “We are thankful to Godrej Appliances for participating in e-waste collection drive in Rajasthan and creating awareness among the masses for environmentally sound disposal of e-waste. This e-waste collection drive received overwhelming response of citizens, and more than one crore rupees has been distributed by the recycling agencies among them as best value for their e-waste. I believe this support will be continued for upcoming phases too.”

Further, Manish Agarwal – Director at Global Waste Solution, said “The drive for the awareness about management of e-waste, run jointly by Global Waste Solution, different Regional Offices of Rajasthan State Pollution Control Board and Godrej Appliances has been successful. People in general participated enthusiastically and appreciated this noble cause. Such drives are need of the hour.”
