KOCHI:
Shoji Sebastian’s debut film, Piplantri, has released on Neestream. The film talks about the prevalence of the social evil that is female foeticide in India.
Piplantri, which is also a village in Rajasthan that practices planting trees every time a girl is born, shines light on the subject through a mother’s struggle to save her newborn’s life. Female foeticide is largely an uncharted territory in Malayalam cinema, and that makes Piplantri the first Malayalam movie to portray the subject as its crux.
Shot entirely in Rajasthan, the film has captured the customs and traditions indigenous to the villages of the northern state.
Produced under the banner of Zickamore International, Piplantri’s cast comprises fresh faces. Suresh Velath, Rishi, Miyasree, Joshy Krishna, Rakesh Babu, Kavya and John Mathews play significant roles in the movie. Shoji Sebastian and Shelly Joy have written Piplantri, while Sijo M Abraham has handled the cinematography. Music has been composed by Shanty Antony Angamaly to the lyrics of Chittoor Gopi and Joice Thonniamala, and Ibru F X has edited the film.
