KOCHI:
CUSAT campus starts harvest of vegetables cultivated under the initiative ‘Idle to Ideal” in collaboration with Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of Kerala.
The harvest was inaugurated by Prof. (Dr.) K.N Madhusoodhanan, Vice Chancellor of CUSAT. Prof. (Dr.) P. G Sankaran, Pro-Vice Chancellor, CUSAT,
Prof. (Dr.) K. Girish Kumar, Director, IQAC, CUSAT, Dr. P.K Baby and Dr. Sangeetha K Prathap, Co-ordinators, Idle to Ideal Programme joined the harvest.
“Idle to Ideal could be CUSAT’s flagship green initiative that could improve on health front of our students and employees through safe to eat products available for consumption”, said the Vice Chancellor. Inaugurated by Minister of Agriculture, V S Sunilkumar; the initiative converted fallow lands at CUSAT to full fledged farming deploying NSS units of CUSAT and farmers organised by the Department of Agriculture.
As the Campus is not fully open due to Covid -19, NSS volunteers in and around CUSAT and campers in the NSS Camp took an active part in the planting drive. The sale of safe to eat vegetables are initiated among the employees and students of CUSAT through a local based commerce platform designed for the purpose.
