The national suicide rate is 10.2 per lakh, while in Kerala it is 24.3 per lakh due to lack of proper suicide prevention policy, evaluated the 36th State Conference of the Indian Psychiatric Society (IPS), an organization of mental health professionals.
“Uncertainty, income problems, and occupational stress during the Kovid era are factors that adversely affect mental health. Action plans will be formulated to convey the message Your mental health is your responsibility”, said Dr. Thomas John, State President, IPS. and Dr. Anoop Vincent, Secretary.
I.M.A. State President Dr. Abraham Varghese inaugurated the conference. World Psychiatric Association Secretary Dr. Roy Abraham, Dr. James Antony, Dr. SD Singh, Dr. KP Jayaprakash, and Dr. MJ John addressed the conference.
