JCI Mapusa celebrated Women’s Week instead of just a Women’s Day. Over a period of 7 days around 25 different activities and events were conducted for the Women. The Women’s Week was inaugurated at Mahilashram by sharing moments of Joy & Happiness with the senior women.
Some of the major events and activities were:-
Felicitation of Wonderful Women: JCI Mapusa felicitated 5 women who have performed par excellence in their respective field and more importantly those who have the ability to inspire other women. JCI Mapusa a city based LOM conducted the felicitation in the Rural area of Revora as we wanted our rural women to feel inspired by our felicitees and their real life stories of struggle and success.
In the field of Education we honored Sandhya Fernandes, for Social Cause Preeti Kerkar, in the field of Entrepreneurship Sweta Chari & Mansi Govenkar and in the field of Sports Josline Maria D’Souza. At this occasion Tarabai Shinde was also felicitated as all 3 of her sons have served in the Indian Army and the eldest son was matryed in the Kargil war yet she permitted her other sons to be in the Army. She received a standing ovation from the audience.
The Felicitation was conducted at the hands of Executive Vice President of JCI India Rekha Rathore, who motivated the women with her inspiring speech. Zone President Santosh Dhekne & Zone Vice President Sneha Chari were also present for the program.
Sessions on Health & Wellness: Session on ‘Adolescence & Menstrual Health’ was conducted for Girl Students of Std. 8th & 9th of Dattaram Mantrawadi Memorial High School, Mapusa by Lady Doctor Dr. Arundhati Sadekar. A concurrent session was conducted for Male Students of Std. 8th & 9th of Dattaram Mantrawadi Memorial High School, Mapusa by Aparna Karapurkar associated with the Directorate of Health Services, State of Goa. Session on ‘Adolescence & Mensuration’ was conducted for all Girl students from 5th to 10th of Holy Rosary School by Dr. Diedre Dias, a practicing doctor at Goa Medical College Bambolim.
Self Defense Sessions : JCI MAPUSA conducted Self Defense Session for Girl students of Dattaram Mantrawadi Memorial High School, Mapusa as well as at Lourdes Convent High School, Saligao. The session was in association with SPG (Self Protection Group). The trainer was Sitakant Kamat who is a renowned Self Defense instructor who has a Black Belt in Karate & Kung Fu and Maya Kamat who has a Black Belt in Kung Fu along with Aastha Kamat who is also a certified trainer at a young age and has Black Belt in Karate & Kung Fu. Practical Demonstration and hands on Training was conducted for the students.
Session on Women’s Rights for Self Protection: The President of JCI Mapusa Eeshan Usapkar as a lawyer explained to the girl students about IPC Section 96 to 106 which relates to the right of private defense. The provisions contained in these sections give authority to a person to use necessary force against an assailant or wrongdoer for the purpose of protecting one’s own body and property as also another’s body and property when immediate aid from the state machinery is not readily available.
Awareness Walk: Lady Jaycees of JCI Mapusa went around the village of Revora to spread awareness on menstrual hygiene. The women around the village were initially shy but our members slowly took the lead and explained the benefits of using Sanitary Pads. Some of the village women said that the knowledge was helpful and expressed their difficulties too.
Medical Camp: JCI Mapusa in association with Manipal Hospital conducted a Half Day medical camp with various checkups like i-breast screening, ECG, Blood Sugar and General check-up. People from around the Village of Revora came for the Checkup. Women were indeed happy to have had the opportunity of getting themselves examined by experts at their village.
Cooking competition: We had women participants from around the Revora Village who participated in the cooking competition. We had celebrity judge Amita Salatry who presented the famous TV Show ‘Ruchik’ and the author of a book titled the same. There were two categories of participation in Veg dish and Sweet dish. The Sarpanch and Dy. Sarpanch of the Village Panchayat of Revora also came for this event.
Miss and Mrs Aboli Contest: The women of Revora village enthusiastically participated in the Miss and Mrs Contest wherein we had 3 rounds in the competition. The winners were crowned at the hands of Executive Vice President of JCI India Rekha Rathore.
Aboli Funtest: While people were getting themselves checked for the Medical Camp and while other women were participating in other competitions, our members hosted some Fun Contests (Funtests) for the Ladies which they truly enjoyed.
Oath to new Lady Members: 4 New Lady Members who have joined JCI Mapusa were given oath of membership by the Executive Vice President of JCI India Rekha Rathore.
Launch of STRI & Spectrum: Executive Vice President of JCI India JFP Rekha Rathore released Spectrum Monthly Magazine of JCI Mapusa and officially launched the STRI Campaign of JCI Mapusa which is a yearlong project for Self Defense, Training, Remedy, Initiative to make the world a safer place for women.
Weekend Flea & Business Expo : JCI Mapusa associated with Tarang in conducting a Woman’s Weekend Flea Market & Business Expo for a period of 3 days at Caculo Mall. Tarang has been at the forefront of Women Empowerment and started by Founders Sweta Chari & Mansi Govekar. To attract more people for the expo, the members of JCI Mapusa organized games and spot prizes for the ladies so as to keep them engaged and to showcase their talents.
Other Programs included : Skill Development Training for women by teaching how to make Various Cloth Articles, Legal awareness session in association with VMS Law College Legal Aid Cell, Providing Digital platform to women of Mahilashram to market their products in association with Spark Plus Technologies through their App “DigitalBaila”, yoga session for women of JCI Mapusa and ladies of mapusa.
The Women’s Week program was entirely coordinated and managed by the lady members of JCI Mapusa Kirti Gawas, Albina D’Souza, Michelline Fernandes, Ambali Shine, Pooja Naik Morajkar, Snehal Dhekne, Nisha Shetgaonkar, Shiya Naik & Smita Gawandalkar. During the closing Ceremony the President of JCI Mapusa Eeshan Usapkar and Zone President of JCI Santosh Dhekne appreciated the lady members for having conducted such an impactful Women’s Week.
