THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:
Lifting the spirit of the ongoing anti-drug drive under the ‘Vimukthi’ Mission, the Government organised flame-lighting ceremonies in over 1000 places across the state on Friday evening with massive public participation.
The ceremony was held near the offices of panchayats, municipalities and corporations, and district headquarters,in the length and breadth of Kerala.
People drawn from all walks including students, the youth and anganwadi workers turned up in large numbers to join the ceremony, which was led by administrative, cultural and political figures.
In the state capital, the programme was inaugurated by Mayor K Sreekumar at the Kanakakunnu Palace grounds. The anti-drug pledge was read out by Vimukthi Mission Special Officer T V Anupama.
Cine actors Mukesh, MLA, Beena Antony, Additional Excise Commissioner D Rajeev, Deputy Excise Commissioners U Ubaid and Gopakumar were present.
In Kochi, Deputy Mayor K R Premkumar inaugurated the programme at Rajendra Maidan. The function was attended by film personalities Ranji Panicker, Kalabhavan Shajohn, Excise Deputy Commissioner Ranjith, Assistant Commissioner Saji Kumar and Vimukthi Commissioner Suresh were present.
