“Increasing the use of local materials in construction can reduce construction costs up to 60 percent”, said architect Padma Shri G. Shankar.
He was inaugurating a two-day training program on construction work using soil and bamboo, conducted by the Division of Civil Engineering, SoE at Cochin University of Science and Technology.
“The fair use of construction materials and the reduction of the use of metal wire and cement by using soil and bamboo will significantly reduce cost of construction. The local bamboo has the same quality as the metal wires used for construction”, Shankar added. School of Engineering Principal George Mathew, Civil Section Chief Abdurahman, Habitat Group Senior Consultant Madhusudanan, Princess Teresa and Sreejith Rajesh spoke at the function.
