V. M. Salgaocar Institute of International Hospitality Education (VMSIIHE) situated at Manora-Raia,Goa held the first edition of the VMSIIHE Hospitality Career Expo 2019, a one-of-a-kind career expo open to students from various hospitality & culinary institutes from across India, graduating this academic year 2019-20.
Speaking about the event, Prof. Irfan Mirza, Director/Principal of VMSIIHE said, “VMSIIHE Hospitality Career Expo 2019 is the ideal platform for representatives of the hospitality industries to meet, interact and engage with the country’s budding talent from within hospitality institutes. Goa is one of the world’s fastest growing markets and we aim to encourage this growth.
We have 23 leading brands and students from different parts of the country. We plan to make this expo an annual fixture.” The day-long event hosted leading brands, hospitality institutes and industry stakeholders who could interact and network on a common platform.
13 institutes from India participated in the hospitality expo. These included IHM, Goa; IHM, Shimla; IHM, Bihar; Institute of Hotel Management, Catering & Nutrition , Gurdaspur, Punjab; Jindal School of Hotel Management, Vadodara, Gujarat; Agnel Institute of Food Crafts & Culinary Sciences, Goa; Food Craf Institute, Ajmer, Rajasthan; GIHM, Haryana; T John College, Bangalore, Guardian Angel Institute of Hotel Management and Catering Technology, Goa; Gesto Culinary & Hospitality Academy, Goa; St. Anthony’s Academy of Food Service Management, Goa and VMSIIHE.
Said Saji Joseph, CEO of Malabar Escapes & The Malabar House Fort Cochin” As far as the quality of the students is concerned a lot of it has to do with the infrastructure of the institute itself. Giving them the right infrastructure as well as the background with right basics which will be the foundation for them when they step into the industry. I think VMSIIHE is doing it in a very, very good way. With the exposure the students receive, they are adequately prepared to enter the professional field”

Students from hospitality institutes who graduated this academic year had the opportunity to showcase their skills and seek placement opportunities. The event created a common ground for students and top-class industry professionals from across India to interact with graduating students.

The event had exhibition spaces for industry players ranging from starred and boutique hotels to fine dining restaurants and fast food chains.

The hospitality industry accounts for more than one-tenth of global GDP and is going to be the single largest employer globally. In an ever changing industry which has new hospitality sectors springing up annually, the need for skilled professionals has never been higher.
