Dr. N. Balakrishna, Professor, Department of Statistics, Cochin University Of Science and Technology was awarded ‘Distinguished Statistician -2018’ award by the Indian Society for Probability and Statistics (ISPS).
The award is presented every year for the meritorious service rendered in Academic and related Statistical activities. The Distinguished Statistician award is presented to honour and confer Renowned Scientists, inspiring Teachers and able Researchers and Profound Statistician and a great humanist. The award was presented to him by Prof. B K PUNIYA, Vice Chancellor, Maharshi Dayal University, Rohtak, Haryana during the 38th annual convention of the Society held at Department of Statistics, held in December 2018.
Prof. Balakrishna is a winner of the Common Wealth post doctoral fellowship sponsored by the UGC and Association of Common Wealth Universities to do the research at the University of Birmingham. He was also selected by the British Council for UK- India Education and Research Initiative Fellowship to continue the research collaboration at University of Warwick.
To continue the ongoing research collaboration in the area of time series and analysis, he had made several visit to the University of Waterloo, Canada and also a visiting Scientist at Technical University Dressen, Germany. He was a visiting Professor at Michigan State University during 2015-16. Prof. Balakrishna was the treasurer of International Indian Statistical Association- India and is an Associate Editor of the journals of IPSP communication in Statistics. He is an elected member of the International Statistical Institute (ISI) since 2006 and is a council member International Society for Business and Industrial Statistics.
