A new book “A Textbook of Traditional Medicine” takes a peek into the ayurvedic and pharmacological aspects of the traditional medicine.
The book authored by Dr. Amritpal Singh and published by the Delhi based AITBS publishers, Delhi, has been written to cater to the needs of students pursuing M.S. (Pharm) course at National Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (NIPER), Mohali.
M.S. (Traditional Medicine) course is a unique course for students serous in making a career in ethno or traditional medicine. The conventional courses being run in Ayurvedic Pharmacy are Diploma in Ayurvedic Pharmacy, Bachelor of Ayurvedic Pharmacy and Masters of Ayurvedic Pharmacy. The major difference between conventional courses (D. Pharm-Ayurveda, B. Pharm-Ayurveda and M. Pharm-Ayurveda and M. S. (Traditional Medicine) is a striking difference in the syllabus.
It has been broadly divided into five sections, viz., TM-510: Introduction to Traditional Systems of Medicine, TM-520: Ayurvedic Pharmacy, TM-620: Pharmacological Evaluation of Herbal Drugs, TM-630: Clinical Aspects of Herbal Drugs and TM-640: Herbal formulations. The book has been written strictly according to the syllabus prescribed by National Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (NIPER), Mohali.
The Government of India decided to introduce ‘The Indian Medicine and Homoeopathy Pharmacy Central Council Bill, 2016’. The objective of this Bill is to set up regulatory framework for the Central as well as State level of standardization and quality control of education and practice of pharmacy in Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani Tibb and Homoeopathy. Thus, M.S. (Traditional Medicine) course shall have more relevance in the near future.
