New Delhi: The Motor Vehicle (Amendment) Bill 2016 which proposes huge penalties for traffic rule violations was introduced in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday.
The provisions of the Bill are likely to cause an uproar in the country as it proposes hefty penalties and stringent punishments for traffic offences.
Some of the provisions:
* Rs 2,000 fine and 3-month suspension of license for driving a two-wheeler without helmet
* A penalty of Rs 1000 to 4000 for over-speeding
* Up to Rs 10,000 fine for drunken driving
* Rs 2 lakh compensation for hit-and-run cases
* Up to Rs 10 lakh compensation in case of road fatality
* Rs 2,000 fine and/or three- month imprisonment for driving without insurance
* Guardian/owner will be deemed to be guilty in case of road offence by minors and registration of the vehicle will be cancelled.
