HYDERABAD:
The drug control administration authorities of Telangana along with the help of police task force have cracked a whip on the smugglers of oxytocin drug and have seized 1,500 liquid oxytocin bottles from the possession of two persons in Hyderabad.
Earlier the central government had banned the free sale of oxytocin and has set restrictions so that the oxytocin drug is not misused for other purposes other than medical use.
In view of this, the drug control administration of Telangana has been monitoring and keeping an eye on the pharma companies and medical shops to keep a tab on illegal sales of oxytocin drug. In pursuance to their endeavour, the drug inspectors along with the west zone task force team nabbed two persons in possession of 1,500 oxytocin liquid bottles. The drug control authorities have also recovered vital documents relating to the banned drug from their possession.
“Based on a tip-off, we conducted raids at a manufacturing unit of Banwarilala Suresh kumara Bansal, Chunni Bhoosa Shop in Mallepally and at Bandlaguda respectively and apprehended two persons named Shaik Abdul Khalid and B. Suresh Kumar Gupta who were found possessing Oxytocin. These people are illegally manufacturing and selling the drug without the permission of the DCA. We have booked the cases against the culprits and initiated legal action against them,” informed Radhakrishna Rao, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Task Force team.
The liquid Oxytocin drug is usually used for veterinary purposes. However, the central government has banned the free sale of this drug because it can also be used as a steroid. Learning that the drug is banned and it was not easily available, these two men resorted to smuggling of this drug and selling the same to earn easy money. “We have seized 1,500 oxytocin liquid bottles of various quantities which include 200ml, 180 ml, and 140 ml; along with it we also recovered three oxytocin injections, two bottles of phenol I.P, three sealing machines and 180 ml empty bottles with caps from their possession,” he said.
According to the DCA authorities, the culprit Khalid had started a business in the name of SK Medical Agency and was selling generic medicines and surgical items at wholesale rates. However later Khalid came in contact with one Mosir who supplied oxytocin injection bottles in Hyderabad illegally. Attracted to gain lucrative business Khalid procured the oxytocin injections at Rs. 25 per bottle and sold it at Rs. 50 per bottle to Suresh Kumar Gupta who is running cattle feed business. Later Khalid himself learned how to prepare oxytocin and started manufacturing it in his own house. Later he sold the same to the cattle farm owners to earn easy money.
