VISAKHAPATNAM:
The naturopathy wing in Andhra University, which was in limbo in the last four years, is all set to be revived with the department of yoga and consciousness authorities busy vetting proposals to improve infrastructure, after which the proposals will be sent to the ministry of Ayush for seeking financial assistance.
This development assumes significance as the university is planning to introduce an 18-month yoga therapy course from next academic year. Head of the department Prof TV Ananda Rao said they are augmenting infrastructure and appoint doctors and skilled persons for the naturopathy wing.
The department used to offer naturopathy treatments, including massage, steam bath and mud bath, etc. Vice-chancellor Prof G Nageswara Rao said the naturopathy wing had enjoyed great demand. “For the yoga therapy course as well as for the naturopathy wing, we need to set up a laboratory. We will tie up with hospitals like King George Hospital to train the students. We are expecting financial assistance for the naturopathy wing from the ministry of Ayush,” he said.
The department had witnessed a manifold increase in the number of students taking diploma and PG courses. The sudden fame for yoga has also become a blessing in disguised for youngsters, who had earned their diplomas and PG degrees, to find jobs in India and foreign countries.
