New Delhi: After its unsuccessful bid to join the Nuclear Suppliers Group last week due to China’s stiff opposition, India will, today, become a full member of the Missile Technology Control Regime( MTCR).
Incidentally, China is not a member of the group.
India’s space programme will be the first beneficiary of this membership. Moreover, it opens the way for importing armed drones from the member countries. The armed drones will be more useful in border patrol than retaliatory strikes.
India had applied for membership last year.Foreign Secretary S. Jaishankar will sign the document of accession into MTCR in Seoul today.
