KOCHI:
Promising singer Sony Sai and Lijo Jos, the lead singer of Harisree Orchestra, joined the list of playback singers who have graced the Biennale Music, ‘Arts and Medicine’ musical show, as the duo took the crowd on a soulful ride down the memory lane with their renditions at the Government General hospital here today.
Arts and Medicine, an all-Wednesday joint initiative of the Kochi Biennale Foundation and Mehboob Memorial orchestra, sponsored by CAFS (Casino Air Caterers & Flight Services), seeks to provide solace to patients through therapeutic music.
At the 196th edition of the programme, Sony and Lijo chose a mélange of evergreen Malayalam songs with a few Tamil and Hindi strewn in between.
‘Kannu Thurakkatha Daivangale’ marked the entry of Soni at the show, which was followed by ‘Aareyum Bhava Gayakanaakkum’ by Lijo. In all, 14 songs were delivered mellifluously by the singers, eliciting resounding applause from the crowd of patients, bystanders and medical staff. Their renditions included three duets sung in perfect synchronization.
Entering into the Malayalam music industry with the film, ‘Sukhavasam’, Sony has made impressive contributions to Kannada and Telugu music industry. She has done stage shows abroad in the US, Dubai, Qatar, the UK and Bahrain. She has sung with popular singers like K J Yesudas, M G Sreekumar and Sonu Nigam, among others.
‘Aadyanuragam’ – her music album — was a hit and she was a winner at the state-level light music and mimicry at school and for light music at the college level.
“I feel quite humbled and bestowed with lot of blessings after the show. Some elderly music lovers came and blessed me for taking them back into the past with popular songs. I thoroughly enjoyed the event organised by the KBF for the patients,” she added.
Lijo, a native of koonammaavu, Ernakulam, is active in music programmes for the past fifteen years.
