THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:
Various religious and social organizations in the forefront of the anti-liquor campaign, led by KCBC’s (Kerala Catholic Bishops’ Council) Madhya Virudha Samiti, took out a people’s march to the government secretariat on October 23 as part of their continuing fight against the LDF government’s liquor policy.
V M Sudheeran, who addressed the march, said that the liquor policy of the LDF Government was framed to support the liquor manufacturers. LDF had retracted from the election promise that steps will be taken to control the use of liquor.
The people’s movement against the liquor policy is a warning to the wrong liquor policy of the government. The liquor policy had destroyed the family security and it can lead to liquor tragedy, he said.
CSI moderator Bishop Dr Thomas K Ommen inaugurated the march. The flag-off of the march which started from Museum Junction was conducted by KCBC president Archbishop Dr M Soosapakyam, Palayam Imam Suhaib Moulavi and Santhigiri Madam organising secretary Gururatnam Jnanathapaswi.
Writer Sugathakumari, Janakeeya Munnani chiarman Joshwa Mar Ignatious Metropolita, Swami Bodhitheerthananda of Sivagiri Mutt, Gandhian P Gopinathan Nair, Kerala Nadvathul Mujahideen State president A I Abdul Majeed Swalahin and Kerala Muslim Jama-at State secretary Saifudeen Haji spoke.
