THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:
The “swachtha hi seva” cleanliness campaign was observed at Thiruvananthpuram division from 15th September 2017 to 2nd October 2017. “Sankalp Se Siddhi” an initiative to realize Mahatma Gandhi’s dream of a clean india through the fortnight long ‘Swachtha Hi Seva’ activities was undertaken by the railways throughout the country. Today Gandhi Jayanthi was observed with effective cleaning and public awareness drives in association with various NGO’s, Educational Institutions and Public. The day has been marked “Swach Bharth Divas” to emphasize the importance of cleanliness. Shramdhaan was organized at all major stations and railway institutions throughout the division.
At Thiruvanthapuram central station 30 NCC cadets from Government Arts College, Thiruvananthapuram joined the railways in a ‘shramdhaan’ for cleaning the station and surroundings, various activities were conducted to spread the awareness on cleanliness.
At Aluva station cleanliness drive was conducted in association with, NSS unit of SNDP Higher secondary school, Saras Arts club, Taz residential association, Parcel handling and Housekeeping staff.
At Thrissur 50 NSS volunteers from Vidhya Engineering College joined the railways in cleaning activity.
At Guruvayoor Railway station shramdhaan cleaning activity was followed by planting of tree sapling by Abdul Khadar MLA Guruvayoor at station premises.
For effective cleanliness public awareness is important. A flashmob was organized by Infosys at Thiruvananthapuram central station on 01.10.2017 to create awareness on cleanliness. During the cleanliness fortnight, announcements were made through Public address system and Short video films exhibited through CCTV display at stations for creating awareness on using dustbins and regarding the features of ecofriendly biotoilets.
