AHMEDABAD:
The Dholera Industrial City Development Limited has awarded the co
ntract for construction of a 50 Million Liters per Day (MLD) Water Treatment Plant (WTP) in the proposed Dholera Smart City to SPML Infra Ltd.
The contract award, on Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) basis, is for infrastructure including Water Treatment Plant, Clear Water Reservoir, Master Balancing Reservoir and Pumping Stations and entails the operation and maintenance of the project works for a period of five years. 
Construction of the WTP, which has been designed for an expansible capacity of 150 MLD to meet any future demand, is expected to begin soon.
The latest contract accelerates the process of trunk infrastructure building in Dholera, which is a major node in the Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor.
The first phase development of the greenfield city covers an activation area of 22.5 sq. km out of a total of approximately 920 sq. km which will include industrial zones, commercial centres, residential spaces, an international airport, world-class transport networks and utilities and IT-enabled administration and governance systems.
All infrastructure in Dholera will follow best practices in sustainability. The city has been planned with for zero waste discharge by treating 100% of the wastewater for non-potable and industrial use. It will also capture storm water runoff to minimize flooding and property damage, implement a rain water harvesting system for aquifer recharge and reuse water for irrigation.
The Water Treatment Plant will be constructed with latest SCADA and automation technology to provide real-time updates on the Intake and Outflow water data which will be projected on a TV Screen at Dholera’s Administrative Building, which is under construction.
On ground work has already begun in Dholera in earnest, with contracts awarded for a nodal Administrative-Cum-Business Centre, Roads and Services, Sewage Treatment Plant and Information & Communications Technology (ICT) plans.
Transaction advisors have been appointed for the Dholera International airport and the NHAI is preparing the Detailed Project Report for the Ahmedabad to Dholera Mass Rapid Transit System.
