BENGALURU:
The Bengaluru police are investigating a horrifying case involving the murder of Assam-based vlogger Maya Gogoi, allegedly at the hands of her boyfriend, Aarav Hanoy. The incident took place at a service apartment in Indiranagar and has left the city in shock. According to police sources, Aarav reportedly spent two days in the apartment with Maya’s corpse before fleeing the scene. He was seen smoking cigarettes while sitting in front of the body during this time.
Maya, who lived with her sister in Bengaluru’s HSR Layout, had informed her sibling on Friday that she would not be returning home due to an office party. The following day, she sent another message saying she was attending another gathering. It has been revealed that Maya and Aarav were in a relationship for six months after meeting on social media. They checked into the service apartment together on Saturday, November 23, and were seen entering the premises normally on CCTV footage.
The investigation indicates that Aarav had premeditated the murder. He reportedly brought a knife with him and purchased a nylon rope online before checking into the apartment. After spending time with Maya, Aarav is believed to have stabbed her to death late on Sunday night. Disturbingly, he stayed with the body for two days before leaving the apartment on Tuesday morning. CCTV footage captured him exiting at 8:19 AM. He traveled to Bengaluru’s Majestic area and switched off his phone, making it difficult for authorities to trace him.
Police have since formed two teams to track Aarav, extending their search to Kerala and other locations where he might have sought refuge. The investigation has also revealed that no one else entered the service apartment during the period between November 23 and November 26, further confirming Aarav’s involvement in the crime. Authorities are probing whether Aarav planned to dismember and dispose of the body, given the time he spent with the corpse and the items he brought with him.
The gruesome incident has drawn parallels with another shocking case from September in Bengaluru, where a woman named Mahalaxmi was killed and dismembered by her partner. Her body parts were stored in a refrigerator, and the accused later died by suicide.
The Bengaluru police have gathered substantial evidence, including CCTV footage and cab booking details, but are yet to issue an official statement. The case underscores the rising concerns over violent crimes in urban areas and the need for vigilance in personal safety.
