Vizhinjam will be Given Priority, Ensures Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi assured Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan that the Vizhinjam project will be given priority.
Both Vizhinjam and Colachel projects are important for the development of the nation. However, Vizhinjam will be given priority, Modi assured Pinarayi. The Centre will extend all help to complete the work of Vizhinjam project in a time-bound manner.
Pinarayi met Modi at New Delhi andpinarayi expressed concern over the decision of the Union Government to give clearance to Colachal port in Tamil Nadu. Kerala conveyed its concern, that the decision will badly affect Vizhinjam Port, which has already started its construction works.
Pinarayi informed Modi that there should be proper criterion on the functioning and the distance between the two ports. Pinarayi said that Kerala is not against Colachel port.
Colachel port is hardly 30 kilometres from the Vizhinjam port. Pinarayi explained the need to protect the Rs 1,700 crore project, which is one of the ambitious project of Kerala Government.
Modi assured that the concerns of the Kerala will be considered. Pinarayi was accompanied by Ports Minister Kadannappally Ramachandran.
