Venkaiah Naidu Visits Goa to Review Progress on Smart City Projects

M. Venkaiah Naidu, Minister for Urban Development, met with Chief Minister, Dy Chief Minister and MLA of Panaji along with other Goa Government officials today to review the progress made on projects formuvenkiahlated under Atal
Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) and the Smart City mission.
Earlier this year, the Centre had announced the list of 13 cities which made it to the top of the list in the Fast Track Mode of the Smart City Submission of which Panaji won a coveted seat. The city has already set the wheels in motion by appointing a Special Purpose Vehicle, Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Ltd, to implement the plans mentioned in the proposal.
As part of M. Venkaiah Naidu’s meeting with local government officals, several points were discussed. It was decided that Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL) will audit the energy for water pumping systems. The State Government will prepare a Detailed Project Report for water and sewerage to Ministry of Urban Development (MoUD) for seeking external assistance.
MoUD will assist and provide 80% of the funds to the State Government for preparing a comprehensive mobility plan. The State will identify sites for the construction of 100 public toilets under the Swachh Bharat Mission. The third and final plan under AMRUT will be submitted by 30 th of October. The Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation (HUPA) is to support the construction of houses unde
r its mission and the State will submit a proposal for the same. National Buildings Construction Corporation Ltd.
(NBCC) is to examine the redevelopment project at Kolwale, spanning approximately 25 acres of land, focusing on affordable housing. Lastly, the Smart City Proposal is to be expanded to cover more areas within Panaji.
