KOCHI:
A two day National brain storming workshop on the scientific and technical applications of recently installed state-of- the-art Stratosphere- Troposphere Wind Profiling Radar of Cochin University of Science and Technology will be held during February 09-10 at the Radar Campus of Advanced Centre for Atmospheric Radar Research, CUSAT.
The Cusat sophisticated ST Rader was established in the University with the support of S
cience and Engineering Research Board, DST, Government of India under its scheme, intensification of Research in High Priority Area (IRHPA) for the study and research on Indian monsoon, stratosphere-troposphere exchange processes, atmospheric dynamics and thermodynamics, turbulence, and severe weather events such as thunderstorm, lightning, flash flood etc. It was commissioned in December 2016 after passing various tests conducted by the national Technical Expert Committee. The Radar is now successfully functioning on a regular basis, and this national facility is open to all academicians and researchers across the country.
The purpose of the Workshop is to introduce the scientific and technical facilities available in our Country and to develop trained manpower in utilizing the high quality data and information available through the CUSAT ST Radar. It is also intended to provide a common platform for sharing the valuable and
interesting atmospheric observations available through the wind profiler radar for advanced research in atmospheric science. The workshop hosts about 75 participants hailing from various Universities, and academic/Research organizations such as ISRO, Raman Research Institute, Indian Institute of
Astrophysics, National Remote Sensing Agency etc., falling under both scientific and technical categories, said the Centre Director, Prof. K. Mohankumar.
