Kannur: Police registered cases against CPM MLA A N Shamseer and DYFI Leader P P Divya in connection with the suicide attempt of a Dalit woman in Thalassery.
Anjana complained that the MLA and the woman leader had portrayed her as a bad woman while participating in a television debate. She told the police that this provoked her to make the suicide attempt.
Anjana and her sister Akhila had been arrested and sent to jail in connection with an alleged attack on a CPM activist and trespass into CPM party office. They were released on bail the next day following the intervention by National Commission for Scheduled Castes.
