

IMPHAL:
In a major crackdown on militant activities, security forces arrested nine insurgents affiliated with various banned outfits from different districts of Manipur, including Imphal East, Imphal West, Kakching, and Thoubal, police said on Tuesday.
According to police reports, five operatives of the Kangleipak Communist Party (City Meitei) were apprehended from the Mantripukhri Thakurbari area in Imphal East district on Monday. Security personnel recovered a 9mm pistol with a magazine, 11 live rounds of ammunition, two hand grenades, and three mobile phones from their possession.
In a separate operation on the same day, security forces arrested a militant linked to the banned Kangleipak Communist Party (MC) Progressive, allegedly involved in extortion activities, from Singjamei Thokchom Leikai in Imphal West district.
Further operations led to the arrest of a member of the banned United People’s Party of Kangleipak (UPPK), also accused of extortion, from the Irengband Hawairou area in Kakching district. Meanwhile, an active cadre of PREPAK (Pro) was detained from Yairipok Bazar in Thoubal district on Monday.
On Sunday, security personnel apprehended an active member of the banned Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup, involved in extortion-related activities, from the Wabagai Bazar area in Kakching district, police added.
Arms and Ammunition Recovered
In addition to the arrests, security forces recovered a significant cache of arms and ammunition during search operations in Bishnupur and Tengnoupal districts.
During an operation at Phougakchao Mamang Leikai near the Khuga River in Bishnupur district on Monday, security forces seized:
- One AK-47 rifle with a magazine
- One 2-inch mortar
- Two SMG carbines
- Two country-made 9mm pistols with magazines
- Three hand grenades
- Two IED explosives
- Twenty gelatine sticks
- Five live rounds of 9mm ammunition
Meanwhile, another suspect was arrested from Khuyathong Crossing in Imphal West district on Monday, with a 9mm pistol and a magazine recovered from him.
On Sunday, search and area domination operations in the Duthang Laiching track of Tengnoupal district led to the seizure of:
- One 9mm pistol with a magazine
- One AK-47 rifle with a magazine
- One .303 rifle
- One country-made 12-bore rifle along with ammunition
The security forces continue to intensify operations across the state to curb insurgent activities and maintain law and order.
