KOCHI:
The morning tranquility was serenaded by soulful music as Jyothikuttan J C, a police liaison officer at the Advocate General Office and a singer in his own right, gave a captivating musical performance here today for patients as part of the weekly ‘Arts and Medicine’ programme.
The 188th episode of the all-Wednesday programme, organised by the Kochi Biennale Foundation at the Government General hospital, started with Jyothikuttan’s devotional song ‘Oru Yugam Thozhuthaalum’ , followed by ‘Pradamavanam’.
Aanice Cletus, an amateur singer who works with the Kerala State legal Services at the Kerala High Court, Ernakulam, also supported the lead singer with her renditions. In particular, her rendition of ‘Kaanakkuyile’, a hit number of S Janaki, came in for appreciation.
In all, 14 songs were rendered by the singers, five of which were sung by Aanice. The final song at the programme was ‘Ramzanile Chandrikayo’ by Jyothikuttan from the film, Alibabayum 41 Kallanmarum. The songs were Malayalam numbers, except for a solo Tamil song by the male vocalist.
Jyothikuttan, who is currently being trained in Carnatic music by K M Udayan Master, has been in the music industry for a couple of decades. A native of Cherthala, he was part of ‘Blue Diamond’ orchestra, Alappuzha, for more than a decade. He won prizes at the Kerala University for light music in 1997 and 1998. He also won the first prize for light music at the inter-university level.
“Music has a therapeutic effect; it can provide happiness to patients. It can also create a soothing hospital nvironment,” Jyothikuttan said.
Started in 2014, Arts and Medicine programme is an initiative of the KBF, in association with Mehboob Memorial Orchestra and sponsored by CAFS (Casino Air Caterers & Flight Services), aimed at providing solace to patients through live music performances.
