MUMBAI:
PMI Mumbai Chapter, inaugurated its ninth Project Management Conclave themed as “PM in an era of disruption” in Mumbai today. The event was held at Holiday Inn, Andheri East and inaugurated by Raj Kalady, Managing Director, PMI India. The chapter has been organizing and hosting the Conclave since 2007 with overwhelming success and response. In India, PMI Mumbai Chapter is one of the largest chapters of Project Management Institute (PMI), the world’s leading not-for-profit professional membership association for the project management profession.
This year’s event theme “PM in an era of disruption” is relevant to the current scenario where the economic order is changing rapidly due to technology, demographics, and globalization. A change in our future digital landscape will have an exciting and disruptive impact on society. At the same time, these technologies will also raise difficult questions about the broader impact on jobs, skills, wages, and the nature of work itself. Many activities that the workforce carries out today will be automated. The disruptions to the world of work that digital technologies are likely to bring about could pose significant challenges to policymakers and business leaders, as well as workers.
Employers don’t need people who can be replaced by machines; they need skilled professionals who can add real value to the work. It implies that jobs aren’t secure unless employees are up-to-date with professional skills and adapt to the new realities quickly. To discuss this and other pertinent topics around the conference theme, PMI Mumbai Chapter had invited renowned speakers from various industries and domains to share their insights and experiences on emerging disruptive trends and how project management can help get the best out of projects.
Some of the eminent keynote speakers at the 2-day multi-track event included Rohit Chaudhary – Ex-Army veteran, VP-IT Reliance Industries; Gauranga Das – Environmental Leader, Director of Govardhan Eco Village (GEV), Inspirational speaker; Kris Lakshmikanth – CEO & Chairman of Headhunters India Pvt. Ltd; Dr. A. Velumani – Creator & MD, Thyrocare; V.V. Lakshminarayana – Joint Director, CBI; Noriyasu Sugimura – PMP Director (Recognition of Award), PMI Japan chapter; Aslam Khan – Philanthropist Advisor, Investor; Devesh Rajadhyax – founder & CEO, Cerelabs; Girish Mishra – Team member Hitachi payment system; Shubika Bilkha – Business Head, Real Estate Management Institute (REMI) and Harshita Gupta – Dy Team Lead Team Indus.
Commenting on the objectives of the PM Conclave 2017, President of PMI Mumbai Chapter, Mr. Bharat Bhagat said, “Whether it’s working on your current skill set, exploring a new area of expertise or embarking on a whole new career, up-skilling plays a vital role in giving career momentum.
Project management profession has to transform and adjust to the ground realities continuously. And the fact that we are facing tremendous pace of changes that are uncertain, unpredictable, volatile, complex & ambiguous, where the stakeholder expectations still demand achievement of project success, reinforce that reality.’’
Commenting on the forum, Raj Kalady, Managing Director PMI (India) said, “The Anderson Economic Group (AEG) analysis commissioned by the Project Management Institute (PMI) finds that the project management profession will outperform total global job growth over the next decade. The figures predict that within India alone, more than 7 million new project management jobs will open over the next decade in project-oriented industries. However, for project managers to stay relevant and competitive in today’s disruptive global market the critical skills they will require in addition to technical skills are problem-solving, adaptability, leadership, creativity, innovation, and emotional intelligence as identified by PMI’s Talent Triangle.”
