NEW DELHI:
In a rare and stunning admission, Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has acknowledged that Indian ballistic missiles struck the Nur Khan Airbase in Rawalpindi and other strategic sites during Operation Sindoor. This revelation directly contradicts Pakistan’s usual posture of denial regarding Indian military operations on its soil.
In a viral video from a Youm-e-Tashakur event held at the Pakistan Monument in Islamabad, Sharif can be heard recounting that Army Chief General Asim Munir personally called him over a secure line at around 2:30 am on the night of May 9-10, alerting him to the missile strikes. “I can tell you by swearing on God that there was confidence, self-confidence and patriotism in the General’s voice,” Sharif reportedly said.
He further stated that Pakistan’s Air Force responded with indigenous technology and even utilized modern Chinese systems to defend the nation.
On May 10, Pakistan’s military spokesperson Lt Gen Ahmad Sharif Chaudhry had held a press conference at 4 am, claiming that Indian drones and missiles had targeted three key air bases — Nur Khan (Rawalpindi), Murid (Chakwal), and Rafiqui (Shorkot, Jhang district).
Adding to the credibility of the incident, satellite images released by Maxar Technologies show clear damage to at least four Pakistani air bases, including Nur Khan, Mushaf (Sargodha), Bholari, and Shahbaz (Jacobabad), between April 25 and May 10 — hinting at the scale and precision of the strikes.
Indian political leaders were quick to react to Sharif’s rare admission. BJP IT cell head Amit Malviya posted on X, “Let that sink in — the Prime Minister was woken up in the middle of the night with news of strikes deep inside Pakistan. This speaks volumes about the scale, precision, and boldness of #OperationSindoor.”
Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Priyanka Chaturvedi also took a swipe, saying, “To be as clueless as this man when terror airbases under his control are being destroyed by India. Deeply satisfying.”
While Pakistan has not issued an official follow-up on the admission, Shehbaz Sharif’s remarks have opened up questions over Islamabad’s internal preparedness and the impact of India’s covert precision operations.
