    MUMBAI:
A curtain raiser of ‘Paperex 2019’, the 14th edition of the world’s largest international exhibition and conference of the Paper Industry was done in Mumbai.

Paper are mills pre-dominantly set up in rural areas providing large-scale employment and lively hoods directly and indirectly to almost 50 lakh people. A majority of these employees are from lower income group of society i.e. marginal farmers, skilled and semi-skilled workers. While speaking at the curtain raiser J P Narain, VP, Indian Paper & Manufacturers Association and CEO of Century Paper said, “The paper industry is going through a transformational phase and few big paper companies are expanding to meet regional, product or category-specific demands. Overall the consumption of paper is projected to increase to 24 million tonnes in 2024-25 from 15 million tonnes currently. I believe there will be a consolidation within the industry, and we will see more Merger & Acquisitions. Given that this is a manpower intensive industry we expect that these will create jobs both directly and indirectly. Thereby contributing to Nation’s development.
