KOCHI:
The thesis done by young doctor from Kerala to win award in the 19th conference of arthritis specialists in the Asia pacific region (APLAR). Dr. Glindow Antony secured the award for his finding that the treatment cost for rheumatoid arthritis can be considerably reduced through biological therapy method.
The study and findings was made under the guidance of APLAR rheumatologist ambassador Dr. Padmanabha
Shenoy who is also the founder of Dr.Shenoy’s center for rheumatism at Ernakulum. Theses from more than 60 countries were presented at the conference from which Dr. Glindow’s thesis was selected for the award.
Statistics shows that there are more than three lakh arthritis patients in Kerala. 90 percent of the disease can be kept under control with primary treatment. But some patients need to spend more than ten thousand rupees a month for treatment. The studies prove that this cost can be minimized to 1500 rupees. This finding is expected to make a revolutionary change in the global for rheumatoid arthritis treatment.
