THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:
Kerala Tourism will organise training programs aimed at creating new job opportunities for youth in the adventure tourism sector. These programs will be jointly conducted by the Kerala Institute of Tourism and Travel Studies (KITTS) and the Kerala Adventure Tourism Promotion Society (KATPS) under the state tourism department.
Tourism Minister PA Mohamed Riyas will inaugurate the first batch of the programme online at 5 pm on Wednesday March 12. The aim is to explore and prepare youth for new job opportunities in the exciting field where Kerala has taken significant strides of late.
“Adventure tourism in Kerala is growing at a fast pace, and it has opened up new vistas for young jobseekers,” Riyas said. “The sector needs a lot of manpower to assist adventurous travellers and ensure their safety as more people have taken to adventure tourism”, the Minister added.
The Minister also said that the tourism department is responsible for making youth partners in the fight against substance abuse, besides providing job opportunities. He said adventure tourism is spreading throughout Kerala, creating many job opportunities.
Selected students of Munnar Government College and other youth will be trained in the first batch. Those who succeed in the 7-day training programme will be able to get jobs immediately at adventure parks and other institutions offering adventure sports activities.
The renewed focus on adventure tourism, adding dozens of destinations with various thrilling experiences, attracts many visitors to Kerala. Kerala Tourism has lined up international annual events such as surfing, paragliding and mountain cycling championships to put the state firmly on the global adventure tourism map.
The International Paragliding Festival will be held at Vagamon in Idukki from March 19 to 23 while the International Surfing Festival will be held at Varkala in Thiruvananthapuram district on April 10-13. The Mountain Terrain Biking Championship (MTB Kerala 2025) will be held in the last week of April at Mananthavadi in Wayanad.
All three events are organised by the Kerala Adventure Tourism Promotion Society (KATPS) under the Tourism Department, in association with the District Tourism Promotion Councils (DTPCs) concerned.
