  • IIM Kozhikode PG Programmes in Liberal Arts and Management

By NE Reporter on December 17, 2019

    KOZHIKODE:
To overcome the increasingly multifaceted challenges in an ever-evolving business environment and to prepare the leaders of tomorrow, IIM Kozhikode has recently announced a slew of Post Graduate Programmes to foster an energetic learning environment in the area of management. The premier B-school, which will soon be completing 23 years of excellence, will commence two new programmes – Masters in Business (MBA) in Liberal Studies and Master of Science in Finance (MSF), from the academic year 2020.

Announcing the launch of MBA in Liberal Studies, Prof Debashis Chatterjee, Director IIM Kozhikode said, “Management education draws heavily from scientific methods of fact-finding in controlled environments. The scientific method of teaching and learning alone is not sufficient for preparing future managers. This specialized progarmme is being introduced to prepare future managers by enabling them to acquire not only intelligence quotient, emotional quotient, cultural quotient but also the often overlooked, creative quotient.”

Currently, a large number of Liberal Arts and Social Science students are not part of the managerial workforce. This initiative at IIM Kozhikode endeavours to train these untapped assets into a skilled workforce of unlimited value. Students will be selected through a specialized admission test and personal interviews. Aspirants with an undergraduate degree will be eligible to apply; however, their knowledge in Humanities & Social Science will be the determining factor. Companies related to Media, entertainment, advertisements, private academic institutions, and Non-Governmental Organizations shall be invited for in-campus recruitment for this programme.

In another feather to its cap, IIMK has also announced the launch of a new Master of Science in finance (MSF) programme in response to the demand of banking and financial services sector for candidates with specialist skills and expertise in finance. This two-year full-time programme is designed to meet the significant transformation in the financial services brought out by technology and big data. The MSF programme is a specialised professional qualification with exclusive focus on financial theory and application compared to traditional MBA, which provides broad foundation of management topics, with an option of specialisation in finance. The online link for applying for this programme is now live on iimk.ac.in

Highlighting the uniqueness of this programme, which is not only a boost for young experienced BFSI professionals but also for fresh graduates interested in kick-staring their career in finance, Prof. Debashis Chatterjee, Director IIM Kozhikode said “ This is an age of massive disruption in banking and finance. For us in IIMK this represents an opportunity to nurture high quality professionals to lead the sector. We aspire to create the institutional architecture for India’s march towards a five-trillion dollar economy.”

IIM Kozhikode in the Year 2019-20 has achieved significant milestones by also introducing a host of first-of-its-kind programmes which is set to revolutionise management education. In addition to the programmes mentioned above, the institute has also commenced:

    (a) PhD in Management (Practice Track), for working executives, for the first time in India in the form of a practice track, where the executives can work towards a doctoral degree while remaining in their jobs.

    (b) The introduction of the one-year full-time residential MBA in Business Leadership in December 2019 aims to systematically nurture and shape experienced minds into high potential leaders who are authentic, capable, multi-dimensional, and grounded in core values.

The latest batch of Executive Post Graduate Programme (EPGP 12) program, accredited by the AMBA (Association of MBAs) since 2011, also recently registered its largest batch (369 candidates) this year. The Institute also bagged the top honour Elsevier Science Direct – Best Usage Growth Award in the category of all competing IIMs for the year 2018.
